It’s hard to believe we are breaking up today for our Easter break. The term has certainly flashed by and we will return to school on Monday 9th April at 8.50am for the Summer Term.
Sunday 1st April is going to be a very special day, not only because the ‘Easter bunny’ will be visiting us all but also because our conversion to Lakeside Primary Academy will happen. We are all very excited and when we return to school, we will hopefully have had new, colourful signage installed and our new website will be launched.
To commemorate this important milestone in the school’s history we will be presenting every child with a poetry book and a commemorative bookmark in our first assembly of the new term.
We wish you all the most wonderful Easter holiday. Thank you for the fabulous support you have given us again this term and we look forward to the sunshine returning during the Summer term.
As you know, Mrs Cousins is leaving us in the summer to take up a new post elsewhere in York. Since we heard the news governors have been busy working with the Ebor Academy to start the recruitment process. We also asked parents, children and staff for keywords that described their ideal new headteacher, which have now been used to create word clouds in the job description.
The job advert is out today and the post is now officially open for prospective Heads to apply. Over the next few weeks, we will be shortlisting and interviewing candidates and hopefully, soon we will be able to announce our new head. Our ideal is for the new head to start September, but if there is a longer notice period, I am sure you will agree, we are happy to wait a little longer for the right person to lead our school.
Chair of Governors
Today in our special ‘Easter Assembly’ 100 children were presented with an attendance certificate, which is very impressive. Congratulations to the 63 children who received a bronze award for attending every day since Christmas and special congratulations to the 37 children who received a silver award for attending school every day since September.
Lakeside is a nut-free school Please remember that we do have several children in school with severe nut allergies. Please be extra vigilant when sending in packed lunches and snacks from home.
Visitor to years 5 and 6
We have been learning all about the Islamic faith in RE this half term in Year 5 and 6. This week, we were fortunate enough to have a visit from the Imam, Abid, who came to talk to us about his faith and discussed the five pillars of Islam. It was wonderful to hear the Imam speak and to ask him questions. The opportunity has really enriched our writing on Islam.
WOW!! Thanks to our fantastic fundraising over the past two years, we have been able to buy class sets of all these books! These will be used in class for whole class reading and guided reading activities. Thank you for all of your support. We couldn’t have done his without you!
Once again, we were inundated with brilliant creations for our Easter bonnets and eggs competition. After a lot of deliberation, the judges managed to choose their favourites and the winners were:
Austin Bramwell – Willow
Patryk Stepien – Fir
Faith Nengomasha – Sycamore
Lexi-Jai Whitehead – Oak
Eryn Haggerston – Hazel
Sienna Starkey – Beech
Oliver Wilkinson – Elder
Ella Boyes – Chestnut
Mia Reagan – Hawthorne
Congratulations to everybody that entered and thank you again for all your hard work.
