A fond farewell

It is with mixed emotions I write my final contribution to our newsletter. Next Friday will be my final day at Lakeside Primary Academy, prior to taking up the post of heafteacher at Hob Moor Primary School and Federation Leader on the 4th June.

My memories of my 5 years at Lakeside are very happy ones and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Since April 2013, Lakeside has been on an incredible journey and it has been a huge honour and privilege to work with the children, staff, governors and families. Huge thanks to you all for your support.

I will truly miss this amazing school; it is filled with very special children who make staff proud each and every single day. I will certainly find it hard to say goodbye to them next week, as they have become very dear to my heart.

I wish you all a fond farewell, although I am pleased to say I will continue to work with the lakeside dream team in the future as part of Ebor Academy Trust.

Take care.

Debbie Cousins

Governor update

On Monday evening Lakeside’s Governing Body had their first full meeting since Lakeside joined the Ebor Academy Trust in April. Governors received the news that it was to be our Chair of Governors final meeting.

We’d like to say a big thank you to Mikhaila Stanley, who is stepping down from her important position on the Governing body. Mrs Stanley, who has been a Governor for over 4 years and acted as Chair since September 2016, was instrumental in Lakeside becoming an academy. Her passion and entusiasm for the school has been appreciated by us all.

Taking the role on an interim basis is Mrs Jackie Chiplin, who has played a key role on the Governing Body for nearly 4 years.

More staff updates

After the half term break Mr Crabtree is looking forward to taking the reins as Acting Head up until the end of the summer term. From Tuesday 5th June ‘Team Elder’ will be taught by Miss Hunter and Mr Brown. Mr Wilson will also be teaching the class for an increasing number of lessons, as part of the School’s Direct student teacher programme.

Royal wedding celebrations

A big thank you to all children and staff that made a special effort when getting dressed this morning. We have seen outfits that would definitely not look out of place at Windsor Castle.

Once again, the children at Lakeside have been busy getting creative and have produced some beautiful wedding cards. We are pleased to announce that Andy, from Hutchisons, chose:

Isabella Binns – Team Willow,

Amia Bello – Team Fir,

Colby Pearson – Team Sycamore,

Harry Rafton – Team Oak,

Alex Dowle – Team Hazel

Klaudia Adamczyk – Team Beech

Brooke Housam – Team Maple

Ethan Shephard – Team Elder

Sophie Roberts & Ella Boyes – Team Chestnut as our winners.

Working hard

This week our year 6 pupils completed their SATS tests. They all approached the tests with real determination and we couldn’t be more proud of them.

Also, this week the year 2 pupils have had their opportunity to shine and they have tackled their ‘special work’ with such positive attitudes.

Another sporting triumph

On Wednesday the year 3/4 tri-golf team went to York Golf Club in Strensall and qualified for the North Yorkshire finals to represent York.  They played some fantastic golf and we wish them lots of luck for the finals.

Also, for the second year running, eleven year 5 pupils were taken along to help run the festival. We are very proud to say that we are the only primary school who have been asked to provide support at this event.

Mr Sellers, all the staff and children at Lakeside are very proud of their achievements and we’re looking forward to sharing more good news after the finals!

Lakeside is a nut-free school

Please remember we do have several children in school with severe nut allergies. Can we kindly ask that you are extra vigilant when sending in packed lunches and snacks.
