Sharing the Curriculum
We are really excited about ‘Sharing the Curriculum’ with you on Wednesday 9th October from 2:45 to 3:45 and wanted to give you a few pointers about what to expect.
The school gates will be opened at 2:45pm and parents can make their way around the school to their child’s classroom. For safeguarding purposes the hall will be out of bounds throughout, especially when the school day ends due to the after school club provision.
When you arrive at your child’s classroom we will sign you in and when you have finished you are free to take your children with you but will be asked to sign your child out.
If you have more than one child in school we suggest that you start with the oldest sibling first. Arrive at their classroom where you will be signed in, share their learning with them, then leave them in the classroom and move onto the next child. When you have visited the the youngest sibling and signed them out of their class you are free to return to the older sibling to collect them. This may be earlier than the normal end to the day.
This allows us to ensure that children are handed over to carers. For children attending after school club or for whatever reason are unable to share with their adult, we will make sure that there are staff on hand for them to share their learning with.
There is no expectation that you need to remain for the full hour as we hope you will naturally stagger your ‘drop ins’ into the class and enjoy 20 minutes or so to share with your child.
What does ‘Sharing the Curriculum’ look like?
The books that the children will be sharing with you are MAP (Morning Arithmetic Practise), Creative Curriculum books and Maths books.
The children will be primed to go through their books and share what they have learnt. The following questions will help you structure that conversation.
● Ask me what’s my favourite piece of work.
● Ask me why it’s my favourite piece of work.
● Help me to explain what I’ve been learning rather than doing.
This is an opportunity for you and your child to share together, if there are questions for staff please save them for parents evening the following week.
We hope by sharing our curriculum with you, you are proud of what the children are achieving and this can help facilitate conversations at home. We are really looking forward to seeing you.
